Troubleshooting

Q: Whenever i run Orbit, i get an error straight away
A: If Upon running the program you stumble against a runtime error, check if you have the .Net Framework installed. If you do, and you have DirectX 9.0 installed, then your problem is very likely to be the Managed Extensions for DirectX. Those extensions are often installed with DirectX 9.0 and 9.0a. BUT SOME USERS can't get it to install through DirectX. For this, i've made a separate file which has the managed extensions. This file can be downloaded here:
Needed Managed DirectX Files
To make it work, simply unzip it to the Orbit folder. The full download includes these files already. If you have further problems, contact me.

Q: I can't run this program on Windows95/98/ME
A: This program is supported on Windows XP/2003. I have NOT tested this program under other Windows versions. Transparency only works on Windows2k/XP/2003 systems. if you have problems running the dock, please e-mail me about it.

Q: Whenever i try to run this program in transparent mode, i get a "DirectX Compatibility" error
A: This error means that you video card does not support the functions Orbit needs to run on transparent mode. Orbit will still work on non-transparent mode.

Q: I get another weird error when running Orbit
A: E-mail me about this with your pc configuration (video card, operating system, service packs) and a screenshot/copy&paste of the error message.

Q: Why does Orbit try to connect to a server when it starts?
A: Orbit "calls home" to check for updates and alert you when a new release is available. You might aswell deny access to it (via your Firewall) if you don't want it doing that and it will be fine. You just won't receive update notices if you do so.

Q: Are there any other differences between the Transparent and the Non-Transparent modes?
A: Yes. I like to call the Non-Transparent mode "Compatibility mode". That is because i first develop the features on the Non-Transparent mode and then i add them to the Transparent mode. Also, the Non-Transparent mode represents EXACTLY what Orbit should be like (except for the lack transparency).

Q: What's this Error Report thing that popped up?
A: It is a separate part of the software that i built to help me track bugs with people's machines. Whenever an unexpected error occurs in Orbit, it catches it and asks you if you want to send it over to me. Don't worry, no personal information is sent. Just what's needed to fix the problem. Additionally, you can fill in the questions it asks to help even more in fixing the error.
